Sufi Ethnic Rock Band

Alif is a Sufi ethnic rock band that amalgamates contemporary poetry and music with ethnic sound. The band writes in Urdu and Kashmiri. Through poetry and music, Alif hopes to bring attention to the importance of oneness of all beings.

Starting their musical journey with the first performance at Shanivarwada (Pune) in 2008, Alif went on to win 10 national rock band competitions between Feb 2009 and Jan 2011. During this time, Alif shared stage with artists like Agnee, Parikrama, Junkyard Groove, Mohit Chauhan and even an international artist, Bryan Adams in Pune where they performed in front of an audience as huge as 30,000 people. In Mar 2011, alif was declared as one of the top 5 bands in India to compete for the international Hard Rock Calling festival.

Alif continues to perform in different cities and festivals including college fests in Pune (VIT, Symbiosis, etc), Mumbai (Palm Expo 2015, RAIT, PLD), Gandhinagar (PDPU); performed at the Revival of the Bandstand festival in for three consecutive years; performed at festivals like Baaja Gaaja (2012) and Gulmarg Winter Festival (Kashmir) and many more.

Alif was featured on NDTV Prime as a part of their feature “Masters of world music” on 3rd Dec 2014 and has played a live set for the music show “Music Mojo” on the channel “KAPPA TV” on 12 July 2014.

Adding another feather to their cap, they recently recording an OST for a movie titled “19th January” based on Kashmir. The song is called and Sahibo was performed for the first time at an event called “leap frog to coke studio” in Mumbai and was eventually picked up for the movie.

A movie is being made on the band with Mohammad Muneem, the lead artist in the band, playing the lead in the movie. Recently they have released their album “Sufayed” with Flying Carpet Productions.
